You hosted Thanksgiving dinner last year. There were 6 adults and 2 kids. You made a 26 pound turkey. Yup, 26 pounds. You can never have too much, right? Until you reach day 5 of leftover turkey, potatoes, gravy and pumpkin pie and you are so completely over all of it. Yes, you probably should have sent that turkey home with your guests.
The real problem was that you weren’t prepared. No disposable containers on hand, only 1 ziploc bag and just a little plastic wrap.
This year can be different. You can still cook that 26 pound turkey and send the leftovers home with your friends and family.
Thanksgiving Leftover Containers
Be prepared ahead of time. Your family and friends will be thrilled to go home from the Thanksgiving gathering with leftovers!
Here’s how to make it all happen. Gather plenty of take home containers. I have found inexpensive one from places like the dollar store (especially the foil pans with lids!), the grocery store or even this variety pack from Amazon.
Next, you’ll want to download the free Thanksgiving To Go Labels (just click the button at the bottom of the post). Included in the download are 5 different sizes and shapes. There is a label for just about any container you might have.
Print all of your labels ahead of time and adhere them to the containers. It’s a good idea to use something like double-sided tape or even glue dots to add the labels to the containers.
When your meal is over, be sure to invite all of your friends and family to grab containers and fill them up, label them and stick them in the fridge until it’s time to head home.
The best part of all, is you’ll have just enough leftovers for just a day or two and so do all your friends and family–no more leftover over-kill!
